About Tenuta di Artimino

Tenuta di Artimino is a Medici estate founded in 1596, comprising 730 hectares near Florence. Villa La Ferdinanda, the UNESCO-listed centerpiece, was built that same year by order of Ferdinando I de' Medici on a design by Buontalenti. The structure is also known as the Villa of One Hundred Chimneys. Galileo Galilei was hosted at the villa in 1608 to instruct the young Cosimo II in mathematics. The kitchens contain an ancient rotisserie designed by Leonardo da Vinci. The estate includes 78 hectares of vineyard, 16,000 olive trees, and 400 hectares of forest. The Barco Reale hunting reserve was enclosed by a wall 32 miles long in 1626. Food is available at the estate.
