About Spill

Visiting wineries should be as easy as spilling wine

Our story

Wine-lovers want to find wineries.

My friends and I wanted to understand wine better, but figuring out which wineries to visit felt like solving a Rubik’s Cube. It wasn’t always clear which wineries met our group’s criteria, and the group would change with each tasting trip. How do you find a winery that allows kids, offers vineyard tours, has outdoor seating with a great view, serves the right varietals and is under $75 per person? An unreasonable number of tabs were open to find the perfect winery that ticked all the boxes.

After a tasting, we would often forget the wines we tasted — or worse, the name of the winery — and couldn’t use what we learned to plan our next glass or tasting. What was that winery’s ‘thing’ again? Was it the one with the sheep in vines or the one that the video game guy started or the one with the wine cave that felt like it was from Batman? Also, which wines stood out to me at those places and why?

As it turns out, other wine-lovers often face this same predicament. Many people go back to the same wineries over and over again, not necessarily because that’s their first choice, but because they know it meets their criteria. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying your personal classics. To explore the wine world thoroughly, we wanted to wine taste more often and get a greater variety of experiences. Open up the wine world. Let it decant and breathe a little, if you will. So we built Spill to accomplish exactly that.

With Spill, you can find new wineries, browse regional guides, plan tasting trips, explore events, build your wine journal, and create recommendation lists.

The Batman cave winery, the one with the sheep, the one the video game guy started. Those details mean something. We started Spill so the whole thing — finding, visiting and remembering wineries — was as easy as drinking it. (And there’s a high bar there. We think that’s very easy.)

How it works

01

Discover any winery in the world

Spill has the only global winery database, which means that you can search all wineries by region, varietal, style, vibe, setting, tasting fee and so on.

02

Browse regional guides

Get inspired as you digitally window shop in a region or search for wineries based on your personal preferences. Find wineries that vibe with you, then save them in your 'want to go' list. Use your saved wineries to plan your next trip.

03

Plan a wine tasting trip

This part is simple. You have three options: use your own 'want to go' list, copy an existing itinerary or by entering your criteria into Spill: the number of days, number of people and region. We'll spin up an itinerary for you. You can send it to your friends to vote on and swap stops, eliminating the group chat debates. (Probably.)

04

Explore events

You can also check out the events tab to see what's going on in a region while you'll be there. Basically more new places to taste wine with new people.

05

Build your wine journal

When you're at a wine tasting, pull up your journal to add notes, photos and memories. Save wineries you've visited with a favorite, like or dislike rating. Build your personal wine journal to remember what you loved and what you wouldn't choose to revisit.

06

Share your recommendations

Use private lists to plan your next trip or recommend to friends. Use public lists to add to share with the Spill community.
