About
Keith Prader and Ken Gallegos founded Shale Canyon in 2008, producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Tempranillo, Mourvèdre, and Malbec. The winery produces roughly 1000 cases annually and is powered entirely by solar. From 2008 to 2016, wines were produced in the Arroyo Seco AVA under winemaker Ken Gallegos. The portfolio centers on three blends. Consortium marries Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. Striation is 75% Zinfandel and 25% Mourvèdre. Amalgamation layers Zinfandel, Tempranillo, and Petite Sirah. The tasting room is located in Carmel-by-the-Sea at Paseo San Carlos Courtyard, west side of San Carlos between Ocean and 7th. Open Sunday through Thursday 1 to 5 PM, Friday and Saturday 1 to 7 PM. Join the Wine Thieves club for free and earn 25 to 30% discounts on all purchases, plus four complimentary flight tastings annually for member and guest.
