About
Mariam Guniava is the daughter of natural-wine producer Archil Guniava, and in 2019 she founded her own eponymous label, establishing an independent marani about half an hour from her father's cellar. Her winery occupies the ground floor of her home in the centre of Kutaisi and holds eight half-buried kvevris ranging from 100L to 1000L. Some of her fruit still comes from the family plots in Kvaliti, while the rest comes from her own 1.5 hectares of Imeretian vineyard, planted in 2017. She works in the Imeretian style, where only a portion of the grape skins goes into the ferment and skin contact rarely lasts longer than three months.
