About
La Cruz de Comal Wines established itself in Startzville in 2011, working from LD3 Ranch Vineyard, a three-acre estate in Texas Hill Country planted with Blanc du Bois and Black Spanish. The program draws from this home vineyard and Robert Clay Vineyards in Mason County, bottling by hand at cellar temperature around fifty-eight degrees Fahrenheit. The 2024 Pétard Blanc is one hundred percent estate Blanc du Bois, off the lees after ten months. The 2022 Touriga Nacional blends seventy-five percent Touriga Nacional from Robert Clay with twenty-five percent estate Black Spanish. The 2020 El Señor Dan pairs eighty-five percent Ruby Cabernet from Robert Clay with fifteen percent estate Black Spanish. The 2018 Un Poco de Todo, a mildly fortified Blanc du Bois aged five years in barrel with a touch of sweetness, arrives in five-hundred milliliter bottles. The tasting room opens Saturday and Sunday, noon to six.
