About
Dearborn County, Southeast Indiana. Doug Holtkamp started making wine in 2002, then teamed up with Jeff McCann, who brought over 40 years in winemaking and grape growing. The winery itself came together in 2013, the same year Avery Vineyard was planted, three estate acres in the upper elevations of the county, in the Ohio Valley viticulture area, expanded in 2015. Juls Vineyard followed with three more acres in spring 2016. Across 6 1/2 acres, the estate grows 17 grape varieties, feeding a portfolio of over 30 wines. The winery entered its first wine festival, the Indiana Wine Fair in Story, Indiana, in 2014, opened its tasting room to guests in 2015, and by 2017 had extended those hours to Wednesday through Sunday, year-round. In 2018, it was named Indiana Farm Winery of the Year in the under 50,000 gallon category.
