About Van Volxem
Wiltingen, in the Saar valley. Roman Niewodniczanski shapes the program around Riesling and Pinot Chardonnay, fermenting with wild yeasts and forgoing fining agents. The vineyard sits on barren, mineral-rich slate, deposited millions of years ago when this land was sea. Wines are mostly dry. The house pursues a vision to recreate the excellent worldwide reputation of Saar wines from around 1900 by returning to traditional artisanal craft. Notable releases include Saarburger Riesling VDP.Ortswein, Bockstein Riesling Kabinett VDP.GL, Pinot Chardonnay Sekt, and White Burgundy. Tastings at the vinotheque require advance reservation.
