PREJEAN WINERY

PREJEAN WINERY

About

On the western slopes of Seneca Lake, along the wine trail's Route 14 stretch between Geneva and Watkins Glen, Prejean Winery traces back to 1978, when James and Elizabeth Prejean bought 53 acres of bare land. The first 13 acres went into the ground in 1979. The winery opened its doors in 1986. Jim died suddenly in 1989. Libby passed away in 2022 at 93. Three generations in, the winery is now run by Tom Prejean, family owned and operated throughout. About 30 acres are under vine today, thirteen varieties in all. Vinifera plantings include Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, alongside hybrids like Traminette, Vignoles, Cayuga, Valvin Muscat, Marechal Foch, Noiret and Corot Noir. Every bottle is estate grown and produced, including the Goldfinch Vineyards label.
