About Poggiotondo

Between Florence and Pisa, in the Western Chianti appellation near Vinci, Poggiotondo manages vines according to organic farming principles across two distinct terroirs. Alberto and Alessandra Antonini tend vineyards in Chianti Classico's UGA Montefioralle, where sandstone soils are found in the Vinci-Montalbano area and silt-clay limestone appears on the Cerreto Guidi hillside. The cellar uses concrete tanks and terracotta amphorae for fermentation, then ages wines in large untoasted oak casks and concrete tanks. Composted stems and pomace from the winery are returned to the vineyard as fertiliser. Food is available at the winery.
