Cole Thomas leads the work at Madson, a Santa Cruz winery named for his paternal grandmother's Danish maiden name. Fermentations here are natural and spontaneous, seeded with pied de cuves that begin in the vineyard. The cellar favors neutral and seasoned oak for élevage, with each wine racked once after pressing and once before bottling, then given a small sulfur addition at bottling. The tasting room opens Mondays through Thursdays by appointment, Fridays through Sundays with walk-ins welcome Friday to Sunday when space allows. A Welcome Flight Tasting runs $30 per person, waived with a purchase of three wines. The Summit, Chef's, and Vintner's clubs offer tiered allocations and complimentary tastings for members.
