About Clos Rougeard
Clos Rougeard was founded in 1664 in Chacé, near Saumur, and remained in the Foucault family for eight generations before the Bouygues family acquired it in 2017. Fifteen hectares spread across twenty-five parcels sit on clay and limestone soils. Since the 1980s, Charly and Nady Foucault adopted a philosophy of letting wine express its own identity without synthetic products. The vineyard has been farmed organically for eight generations. Some vines exceed one hundred years old and have never encountered chemicals. Wines age for more than two years in barrels, then several years in bottles within tuffeau caves seven meters deep. Le Clos, from fifteen clay-limestone parcels in Saumur-Champigny, preserves crisp Cabernet Franc fruit with delicate floral and spicy notes. Les Poyeux draws from nearly three hectares of clay and draining aeolian sands. Le Bourg comes from very old vines on limestone-dominant terroir with shallow clay loams. Brézé blends several Chenin parcels on the limestone Brézé butte.
