Sommerhausen's roots run to 1435, when the estate began as a Kellnerey producing coronation wines for German kings and emperors. Across 18 hectares in Franken, the program centers on Silvaner, Riesling, Scheurebe, Weißburgunder, Spätburgunder, Muskateller, and Gewürztraminer. Still wines emerge from classified vineyard sites, including the STEINBACH-Alttenberg 1172 VDP.GROSSE LAGE and the Steinbach and Reifenstein VDP.ERSTE LAGE parcels. Since 1982, traditional bottle fermentation has anchored the Schaumwein program, recognized by Eichelmann 2023 as the winery with Germany's finest sparkling wine collection.
