About
Viu Manent began as a negociant business in 1935, then in 1966 acquired the Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco, a property holding 150 hectares of pre-phylloxera vines. The estate now spans 260 hectares across three Colchagua Valley locations. In 1993, the house produced Chile's first Malbec from 100% Chilean grapes. Patricio Celedón has been winemaker for eleven years, three and a half as chief winemaker, leading a portfolio anchored in Malbec and Carménère. Eight Malbec cuvées include the flagship Viu 1, named for founder Miguel Viu Garcia. The cellar produces single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from La Capilla and Malbec from San Carlos. Recent experiments include Tiny Trials, a limited line pairing Chardonnay and Cinsault from sites 300 kilometers apart but sharing ancient granite soil. The estate opened to wine tourism in 1995.
