About
Francisco Undurraga Vicuña began importing European vines in 1870, establishing the winery at its Talagante estate in 1885. He brought Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir from France, Riesling and Gewürztraminer from Germany, each vine transported in lead capsules. Within two decades, Undurraga became the first Chilean winery to export to the United States. By 1903, each of the 45 American states received a case of the house's Pinot Noir. The program expanded across 60 export markets, hosting figures from Olaf V of Norway to Neil Armstrong and Gabriel García Márquez. Today, under winemaker Rafael Urrejola, the Undurraga Wine Group operates across multiple brands and counts the Netherlands, Brazil, the UK, China and Korea among its key markets. The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon from Maipo Valley and Carmenere from Colchagua Valley marked the 140th anniversary.
