About
Genoa, Illinois. Rick and Maria Mamoser, both former high school teachers, founded Prairie State Winery in 1998, when the state counted only sixteen wineries in operation. The portfolio has grown past 35 wines since, ranging from bottlings made entirely of Illinois-grown grapes to blends that co-ferment those grapes with California varietals. Ginger, key lime, elderberries, orange oil, local honey are worked into the wines. The house has taken home 3 Best of Shows and 4 Governor's Cups along the way. A kitchen opened in Genoa in 2016, and the still turns out a Barrel Proof Brandy, an Apple Brandy, and a Gin. Music in the Garden takes place on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays and Sundays.
