About Poppaea Vineyard
Poppaea Vineyard began in 2009 when John Saunders, Marion, and their son Ben planted their first 2,500 vines in Ramona. Saunders brings an extensive background in pharmaceutical chemistry to winemaking. The family crafts Barbera, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Sangiovese from estate-grown fruit. A 5-pour tasting paddle introduces the program, served in shaded seating called The Island or on the outdoor terrace overlooking Ramona Valley and Mt. Woodson peak. A picnic table sits among an experimental vineyard block. Open Fridays 2 to 5pm, Saturdays and Sundays 12 to 5pm.
