Bob and Nan Smith planted their vineyard in 1995, then opened Hilltop in 2001 inside the Historic Star Brewery building along the Mississippi River in Dubuque. The tasting room preserves the original tin ceilings and frames river views. The program pours five local Iowa wines for $15, alongside Dubuque Star Beer flights. Purple Cow anchors the portfolio. Live music runs Friday and Saturday nights from 6 to 9pm, and Sundays from 3 to 6pm. Lunch service weekdays only, 11am to 2pm.
