About
Hanatoro debuted in 2011 with the 2012 vintage, a family-owned operation in Walla Walla. Co-founder Steve Thomson brings 35 years of wine industry experience, and Kevin Bozada serves as Managing Partner and Owner. Justin Wylie directs the cellar, blending through 18 barrels each vintage to select 8 for the final program. The house sources 100% estate fruit from Octave Vineyard, a 27-acre site planted in 2007 on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla AVA. Fractured basalt, volcanic loess, and glacial alluvial silt define the vineyard's soils at 1,250–1,350 feet elevation. The Cabernet ages 20 months in French oak from Allier, Tronçais, and Nevers. Production runs 200–300 cases annually. The Hanatoro Estate Cabernet has earned 97 points from James Suckling, U.S. Cabernet of the Year from Wine & Spirits, and a perfect 100 from Josh Spurling for the 2019 vintage.
