About
Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle arrived in Apalta Valley in 1994 and founded Clos Apalta three years later, releasing the first vintage in 1997. The winery sits on a mountainside in Colchagua, where Syrah grows across 17 steep parcels and old Carmenère vines, some planted in 1910, anchor the program. Andrea Leon is the winemaker. The signature Clos Apalta blends Carmenère at its core, supplemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Ten ultra-spacious casitas and villas, each named after grape varieties, dot the property. Four original lodgings feature Balinese-style design in local rauli wood with wraparound verandas. The Sauvignon Blanc villa opens to 180-degree views across 148 square meters, with a Turkish hammam, stone soaking tub, and personal plunge pool. Chef Leonel Diaz helms the kitchen. A tasting room at the property's base holds a massive glass table that opens to reveal stairs descending into the vaults. The emblematic design uses 24 slats of native Chilean rauli wood, marking the 24 months required to make the signature cuvée.
