About Château La Commanderie

A 13th-century fortress in Plaigne, built by Guillaume de Plaigne, a Cathar Lord who fought at Avignonet and held Montsegur. Barthelemy de Plaigne added the Salle des Chevaliers in the 16th century. Anne de Plaigne married the Count de Pibrac in 1642, then sold the estate to François-Paul de Béon. The Knights of Malta later transformed it into a commanderie, their military headquarters. Now owned by Rebecca Gregory, the château sits on 4 hectares of parkland and gardens with a swimming pool. Ten bedrooms. Fifteen minutes from Mirepoix, forty-five minutes from Toulouse and Carcassonne.
