Château Haut-Brion

About Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan, in the Graves. Vines have grown here since the 1st century AD, but the estate as we know it began in 1521. It was the first Bordeaux wine to be named for its terroir rather than its owner or parish, a distinction that carried forward when the 1855 Classification named it Premier Grand Cru Classé. It remains the only wine outside the Médoc to hold that rank. The library at Domaine Clarence Dillon houses archives of old books, manuscripts, and documents, recently expanded with the Sean Thackrey collection.
