Fred Chavez left a law career after a 2013 pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, founding Chavez Brothers Vineyard in Belen on May 1st, 2021. The winemaker sources grapes primarily from the Middle Rio Grande Valley, producing Chancellor wine. The 2021 Chancellor earned a Bronze Award from the Great American International Wine Competition. The tasting room at 210-B South Main Street opens Thursday through Saturday, 2pm to 8pm, and by appointment on Sunday.
