Alto de la Ballena

About

Paula Lorenzo, an electrical engineer, and Alvaro Lorenzo, a lawyer, joined a wine club in 1996 and began traveling to learn about wine. By 1998, they decided to create a small winery as a project they could do together. Their 50-acre hillside parcel in Maldonado sits on decomposing Pre-cambrian granite and schist. The first harvest came in 2001 with Cabernet Franc and Merlot, followed by plantings of Syrah and Viognier, then Tannat.
