About Black Sears Winery
On Howell Mountain in Angwin, Thomas Rivers Brown shapes the program at Black Sears. The portfolio centers on Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Zinfandel. Block Seven's Estate Cabernet Sauvignon sits at 2,400 feet in volcanic, iron-laden earth high in kaolinite. The Estate Cabernet Franc, allocated exclusively to members in fewer than 100 cases per vintage, debuted as a standalone wine in 2008. The Estate Zinfandel vineyard, planted in 1975 on old St. George rootstock with bud wood from Hayne Vineyard, occupies twelve head-trained, dry-farmed acres at approximately 2,400 feet, the most elevated in the AVA. In 2019, five additional acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc went in the ground. The tasting room welcomes dogs and offers vineyard tours and outdoor seating. Tasting fee is $50 per person.
