Darrell Simmermaker began planting grapes in 2008, seven years before he and Tina established West of Wise in Petersburg in 2015. The winery sources many grapes from their own family vineyard, alongside other Illinois-grown fruit, crafting wines entirely from the state's harvest. Darrell has received medals from the Illinois State Fair Wine Competition over the last eleven years. The tasting room welcomes walk-ins Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 5:30 PM. A wine club ships three bottles four times yearly, in February, May, August, and November, typically at $50 to $70 per release.
