Valiant Vineyards

About

Valiant Vineyards in Vermillion, South Dakota, began in 1996 when Eldon Nygaard fermented the state's first commercial wine after drafting the legislation that made it possible. Eldon and Leif Nygaard produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Vitis Riparia. The portfolio ranges from Wild Grape Port, made with native grapes, to Full Throttle, a dark dry Cabernet blended with French American Hybrids, alongside Turkey Ridge Creek Merlot and Chardonnay, Rushmore Red and White, and playfully named wines like Cock n Hen and Tickle Me! Rhubarb. The 15,000-square-foot facility houses a tasting room open without reservation, with food and outdoor seating. Stone Faces Distillery operates on-site, producing vodka, whiskey, and bourbon. Bed and breakfast accommodations are available.
