Sonoita, Arizona, where James Callahan founded Rune Wines in 2013. Callahan's path into wine started in 2007, first making wine with PurVine Winery in Tempe, then spending three years mastering Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon under winemaker John Allen Burtner. He carries a History degree from Arizona State University into the cellar. Rune has since completed its 9th vintage, recognized for pioneering the use of native yeasts and for unique expressions of Arizona terroir. The tasting room opened in 2015, built off-grid and solar powered, a claim the winery holds as unique in Arizona. Tastings happen outside, under a shade canopy, working through 5-6 wines that typically include a Rosé alongside a selection of whites and reds. A sister brand, Brigand Wines, extends the work.
