Popelouchum Estate

About

Popelouchum Estate sits on 415 acres in San Benito County, just outside San Juan Bautista, directly abutting the San Andreas Fault. The name itself, a Mutsun word meaning paradise, anchors the place in its landscape. Randall Grahm, founder of Bonny Doon Vineyard in Santa Cruz, established the estate in 2012. Four distinctive soil types across the property support dry-farmed and organically farmed grapes. The portfolio spans Pinot Noir, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Grenache Noir, Cinsault, Tibouren, Ruché, and Furmint. Grahm's grape breeding project aims to create 10,000 new varieties. Biochar figures into the vineyard management.
