Northern Sun Winery opened in Bark River in 2020 under Wendy and Melissa Middaugh's ownership. Jonathan Bovard serves as winemaker, vineyard manager, and vintner. The portfolio centers on cold-hardy varietals bred to thrive in northern climates, Leon Millot, Marquette, St. Pepin, La Crescent, and Brianna. Sole di Sera, a dry estate reserve blend of Leon Millot and Marquette, anchors the house. La Crescent earned Gold at the Indy International Wine Competition and New York Finger Lakes. Harvest begins the second Saturday in September, unfolding across five to six Saturdays, one varietal each weekend. The tasting room has outdoor seating.
