About
Khvanchkara LTD (trading as Royal Khvanchkara) is a winery in the Khvanchkara micro-zone of Ambrolauri municipality, Racha region, with roots dating to the 1880s under Georgian noble Dimitri Kipiani and formal establishment in 1927; current operations resumed in 2015. Vineyards across four villages (Sadmelis Chala, Koveli, Tola, and Chkvishi) grow Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes for the traditional semi-sweet Khvanchkara wine, whose predecessor won a grand-prix in Ostend, Belgium in 1907. The winery bottles in distinctive black glass made in the Czech Republic and can be visited by advance booking.
