French Road Cellars operates as a custom crush facility in Lake Leelanau, Michigan, founded in 2009. Under winemaker Charlie Schmidt, the operation produces red and white varietals, fruit wines, Charmat sparkling wines, fortified wines, carbonated wines and hard ciders. The program provides custom winemaking services for wineries throughout Michigan, alongside in-house bottling and labeling. Doug Matthies hand-planted his family's first vineyard in 1989, and the operation now collaborates with Big Paw Vineyard Services for vineyard management. There is no tasting room.
