El Cotarro

About El Cotarro

El Cotarro is a project focused on awareness, protection, maintenance and recovery of the historic bodegas and lagares (traditional wine cellars and presses) that comprise the ethnographic ensemble in Moradillo de Roa, Ribera del Duero. This small municipality of 193 residents preserves nearly as many traditional wine cellars, where culture and wine are intertwined in the region's history. The project has received multiple national awards including the 2016 Spanish National Award for Best Wine Tourism Initiative and the 2020 European Heritage Award.
