About Clau de Nell
Ambillou Château, in the Loire. Twelve contiguous hectares between forests and fields, plots climbing to 101 meters, the ground below giving way to Tuffeau that runs some 40 meters deep. Claude and Lydia Bourguignon conducted the soil analyses here.
The vines average 60 years old, some over a century. Eight hectares carry Cabernet Franc, Grolleau and Cabernet Sauvignon. Chenin came later, 1.5 hectares planted in 2012, another 1.5 in 2018. Grolleau expanded by half a hectare in 2017.
The domaine has farmed biodynamically since 2000. Christian Jacques took over involvement in 2006 and became gérant. Sylvain Potin joined as régisseur in 2009, bringing three years of biodynamic experience from Chile. In 2021, Clau de Nell released its fifth vintage of Blanc de Noir.
