Jason Smith, raised on a Wenatchee pear orchard, trained through the Winemaking program at Northwest Wine Academy and interned for two years at Patterson Cellars, founded Category 5 Cellars in Woodinville in 2017. The portfolio spans nine varietals, from Albariño and Riesling to Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Petit Verdot. Firewall Red, a Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec blend, is priced at twenty dollars. Single-vineyard expressions include 2020 Petit Verdot from Dineen and Dionysus vineyards, 2020 Syrah from DuBrul, and 2021 Counoise from Lonesome Springs Ranch. The Hacker Rosé is priced at twenty dollars.
