Brown Family Wines began in Redwood Valley, where parents purchased an abandoned ranch in the eastern hills of the Napa Valley in 1980. They farmed and sold grapes to local winemakers for a decade before making their own wine. The Brown Estate label launched officially in 1996 with the first bottling, Brown Zin. The program debuted its first three vintages at the ZAP Grand Tasting in San Francisco in January 2000. By August 2021, the house had bottled its 25th vintage. The portfolio spans Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. A sister label, House of Brown, was established in 2018. Brown Downtown, a tasting room in downtown Napa, opened in April 2017.
