Black Sheep Vintners opened in Murphys in 1984, releasing a 1984 Amador Zinfandel from that first harvest. The house specializes in Zinfandels and Rhone varietals, introducing the latter to Calaveras County Foothills. Grapes come from Calaveras and Amador Counties. About 2,500 cases flow from the program each year. The tasting room occupies a converted Flying-A gas station on Main Street, open Friday through Sunday, 11 AM to 5 PM. Wine club members receive quarterly shipments of two bottles and a 20 percent discount on purchases.
