Bioweingut Thünauer

About

Bioweingut Thünauer has farmed organically in Sankt Johann im Saggautal since 1993, among the oldest such operations in Südsteiermark. Hand work defines the cellar and vineyard. No heavy machinery, no synthetic pesticides, no artificial fertilizers. The program centers on PIWI varieties alongside Sauvignon Blanc as the sole classical cultivar. Red wines from Cabernet Jura and Regent spend 12 to 24 months in small wooden barrels. The Südherz line whites age at least 6 months in large wood. CR Privat, a limited edition red, draws from particularly excellent barrels. Beyond wine, the house produces red wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, and distillates, including a Zigarrenbrand aged at least 5 years in wood. Perlweine and a berry Frizzante round the portfolio.
