About
Gols, in Austria's Neusiedlersee region, is home to Binder-Wendelin, a winery founded in 1869 when Harald Wendelin's great-great-grandfather purchased a property that housed a barrel maker's operation. Today, Harald Wendelin tends 10.5 hectares, crafting a portfolio split between red and white. Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Weisser Burgunder, and Sauvignon Blanc anchor the whites, aged in steel and left on fine lees for several months. The reds span Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent, Pinot Noir, and Syrah, aged either in large wooden barrels or up to 14 months in barriques. Sixty percent of the program is red. The house motto, Carpe Diem, names its premium wine.
