Appassionata is Ernst Loosen's Oregon project, named after the Beethoven sonata. The estate sits on the Chehalem Mountain ridge outside Newberg, and the wines are held back for years before release. The top Pinot Noir, Fortissimo, arrives a decade after harvest. Taste in the room or on the terrace above the vines, with kids and leashed dogs welcome, small bites on hand and room to bring your own picnic. Seasonal cave tours run by appointment.
